The Tad Lo waterfall flows from the Xe Xet River, which originates in Sekong Province. But its name was born from a story. Lo, in local dialects, refers to the male genital organ. And here is why. One evening, an old man was returning from the fields. Wanting to bathe before heading home, he arrived at the waterfall — and came across two young sisters who had come to do the same. A conversation started, laughter followed. The sisters threw him a challenge: jump into the waterfall and come out alive. If you manage, we will both become your wives. The old man hesitated. Then undressed. And jumped. He disappeared underwater. For a long time. The two sisters believed him dead. Then he resurfaced — alive, triumphant. The sisters kept their word. From that day on, the place has been called Tad Lo. And the name has stayed.
