This is where it all began. Opened around 1990 by a Frenchman, Tad Lo Lodge was the first accommodation in the village. Today, his son runs the place, keeping this family connection alive by the river. The Lodge has never really belonged only to travellers. Local children still come to swim here after school, the riverbanks are part of their daily life. Three elephants once lived here too — another era, the same place. A Thai princess even made the journey — by helicopter. To a village with no paved road, at the end of a red dirt track. Some places don't need to be famous to be recognised. Today as always, Tad Lo Lodge remains a simple and singular place, where life flows gently with the river.
